Top MP at BROOKS

Wednesday 17 July 2013

Yvette Cooper the Shadow Minister for Women and Equality met hair and beauty apprentices at the Bedford College BROOKS spa on Thursday July 11th.

The high-flying MP chatted with trainees at the professional-standard salon, where young people gain real-life work experience. She also took the opportunity to talk to Bedford College Principal and CEO Ian Pryce CBE about his organisation’s key role in bringing young people and employers together.

Yvette was joined on the walkabout in Bedford town centre by Labour Parliamentary candidate Patrick Hall.

The High Street walkabout was organised by the town centre organisation the BedfordBID and focused on Yvette’s other role as Shadow Home Secretary. She heard from businesses about the impact of front-line police cuts on businesses and from Noble Solicitors lawyer Paul Mallen about the challenges caused by cuts in legal aid.

Earlier that day Bedford College took part in MP Richard Fuller's Speed Dating event which brought together young people and employers at the Bedford Corn Exchange.

Bedford College brings together 1,000s of young people and employers as apprenticeships or other work-based learning programmes.

Bedford College is one the few providers allowed to run the very latest "traineeships" which are being launched in August which give young people access to improved Maths and English studies and work experience with chosen employers.
